For this final master’s project, I want to expand my typography and graphic design skills in new and original ways. I decided to delve into the worlds of the Bristol Boxing Gym and the Find Your Flow dancing club at the Werburgh Center, which I attend weekly.

I find their environments completely different, and it could be interesting to showcase them. I want to bring forward what boxing and dancing mean to members of these clubs and how they foster a sense of community. In a way, I want to create a campaign.

What I found interesting about these communities is that people do not talk much during the class as it is enduring and out of respect for the tutors, so it made me wonder how people can connect during these classes. This is when I realized that much non-verbal communication happens during these classes. Indeed, Communication is done within these clubs through movements such as dancing, boxing, the eyes, giggling sounds, and grunts.

The atmosphere of the boxing and dancing club is very different; indeed, the boxing club has an individualistic and competitive side, while the dancing club fosters unity and light-heartedness. This is why I found that it could be interesting to bring forward their differences using typography. I found that it could be interesting to explore how to create a poster for their specific audiences.

In a way, I want this project to open the discussion to community dynamics and the power of non-verbal communication in bringing people together. This project allows me to explore a new mode of communication within the arts field, using animation and typography.
